Fostering Children In Need

Fostering Children In Need
Fostering children in need In 2015 there were nearly 500,000 children in foster care with a median age of around 8 years old—just about the age a child would be in 2nd or 3rd grade.
For these kids, who’ve spent far too much of their young lives in tumultuous family situations, being placed in a new school can be incredibly stressful. As a teacher, you’ve likely met and dealt with these children, who by no fault of their own, are now simply trying to survive in a strange new world for six to eight hours a day, trying to learn the rules, fit in, and find the bathroom.
In so many ways, the foster care system has your hands tied. But there is one important way you can help these children—by making sure they have the school supplies necessary for success in the classroom.
Many of these children can’t always turn to their foster families for help and often suffer the embarrassment of coming to class unprepared. From not having something as simple as a pencil and a pack of fresh notebook paper to owning a backpack and a lunchbox, these kids face starting the school year already far behind their fellow students.
While some school districts have taken on the task of raising funds, there are many that do not or cannot. But with the help of WonderWe, you and your fellow teachers have the chance to create a free online fundraiser and raise the dollars you need to help change the outlook for every student in foster care at your school.
