Support Students Affected by Maryland Flood
As schools reopen this month, most students have difficulties with the transition of going back to school. Now, just imagine the difficulties faced by a student who has just experienced a deadly flash flood that devastated most of their hometown.
On July 30, 2016, a flood ravaged the small town of Historic Ellicott City, Maryland. In less than two hours, the flood destroyed homes, businesses, cars, and everything in its wake. Thousands of people were impacted, including hundreds of children. These children experienced the loss of parents, relatives, homes, parents’ livelihoods, possessions and peace of mind.
These children victims are now headed back to school.
As a victim of the flood, I personally have experienced PTSD and difficulty adjusting to everyday life. My losses are nothing compared to many of these children. Being an educator has allowed me to see the difficulties facing any student in the classroom, even in the best of circumstances. I am also very aware of the extreme adversity facing students that have undergone trauma or loss, just like these flood victims.
I know that these children victims of the Ellicott City flood will need extensive academic support.
I want to make a difference in the lives of these children by providing this additional support, through tutoring services and academic supplies. My personal business, Tutoring By Courtney, will be providing free services to as many students as possible. However, the need is greater than my business can provide.
The money raised through this campaign Ellicott City Flood-Tutoring for Kids will allow the families of the students to pay for tutoring services, academic supplies. My life is dedicated to improving the education of children. I know that sometimes children need services that schools cannot provide. I hope this campaign will allowed this need to be filled for the children flood victims.
